House Extension & Kitchen Extension Builders in Solihull & Birmingham
The majority of the work we do is extending houses and this has become increasingly popular over the last few years. House prices have become so expensive that for a family now to consider buying a larger house, it may be unaffordable. Extensions are popular because the extra space adds significant value to a property and also because moving house is both costly and stressful.
As well as providing more space, an extension project also provides the owners with an opportunity to modernise the existing space.
The most popular extension we do is a kitchen extension, which often includes knocking down internal walls to create a large, open-plan living space. People love light and bright rooms, so we are often asked to add in bi-fold doors into the garden or a roof lantern, or Velux windows.
More and more of our customers are asking for orangeries when they have a kitchen extension – these are mostly made from bricks and usually feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a lantern style roof. The bricks are carefully selected to match the existing property and the orangery extension is designed to blend in. These are more popular than conservatories as they are more substantial – the walls are well insulated and the glazing utilises modern technology ensuring the room can be comfortably used all year round.
We have worked on many extension projects in Solihull, Birmingham and the West Midlands region; and can advise you on the best way of extending, depending on your requirements – it may be a simple rear extension or the extension may wrap around the side and rear of the house. It may be an unusual shape to add a ‘wow’ factor. A double story extension provides a great opportunity to add further value by adding on an extra bedroom and bathroom.
The process can be complicated with many factors to consider such as permitted development rights, planning permission, building regulations and building control – but we are here to help you through the process so it’s not so daunting.
While extending isn’t as stressful as moving house, it’s still a disruption to your life so we work as swiftly and with as little disturbance as we can. We manage the whole project through from start to completion, so you only have to deal with us and not every single trade involved, whether it’s electrical, gas, plumbing, roofing, decorating or flooring.
We oversee the programme of works and quality of the work of everyone involved, people we have worked with for many years.
Mr & Mrs D wanted their new extension to comprise of an open plan kitchen, dinning & entertaining space along with downstairs shower room. They had already employed the services of an architect and full planning permission was in place.
There were existing 6” shared fowl drainage running under the proposed extension footprint. A build over agreement with Severn Trent and a pre build CCTV survey was carried out. New pipework was then installed beneath the extension and an existing access chamber relocated and replaced. This extension featured:
‘During November 2017 we sold our previous home and downsized. The property suited our requirements in fact it had been reasonably well kept but was in need of a complete makeover.
We appointed Lee Ridley in March 2018 to carry out the building works which involved demolition of the side buildings and the construction of a wrap-around ground floor extension to form kitchen/family dining room and ground floor shower room.
When choosing our builder we required somebody who would totally project manage the build from day one and has a constant presence on the job. As I am in the construction industry myself I knew this would be hard to find. I cannot put into words how pleased we are with Lee and Ridley Construction. They have been magnificent from day one to the end of the project. The workmanship by Lee and his tradesmen is of the highest quality and I would recommend Ridley Construction to anybody who wants a correct and professional project carried out.’
Our client wanted more space but also wanted to be able to section off the open plan space to create smaller, cosier areas when required.
We created an open plan kitchen / lounge / dining area with an internal bi-fold door to separate the space as required. This extension featured:
‘Ridley’s recently completed our extension. We now have a beautiful kitchen and dayroom area which was delivered on budget and time. Lee kept us updated through-out the works and we were very impressed with the workmanship. We will be using Ridley Construction again.’
